Aviation to generate massive jobs growth.

Aviation sector has logged massive growth in terms of soaring demand. However, airlines have shown an increasing propensity to shut down as their revenues are not keeping pace with their expenditure. While Kingfisher Airlines is a worst case scenario, Jet Airways in India is suffering too from various problems that has even caused salary woes to happen for staff. However, aviation is one of the hottest growing sectors and will be churning out millions of jobs for those who are qualified and those looking to enter the sector should eye it positively. What is really driving the positivity is this recent report that has been both a big surprise as well as a revelation. Data brought forward by Air Transport Action Group (ATAG) shows that air transport activity is benefitting the Asia-Pacific region much better than expectation. The ATAG in its report titled 'Aviation: Benefits Beyond Borders' said that over 1.5 billion passengers travel in the region, supporting 30.2 million jobs in aviation and related industries, and 2.7% of the region’s economic activity.

“Asia-Pacific has seen real benefits in embracing the role of air transport. Today, the region is the busiest in the world, with over a third of global passenger traffic from Asia-Pacific. Passengers in the region have taken advantage of the reduction in the price of tickets over the past decades which enables more people to travel, see the world and do business outside of their own country,” said Michael Gill, ATAG’s Executive Director, during the ATAG Global Sustainable Aviation Summit in Geneva.

World Tourism Day: harnessing new technologies to transform travel.

The United Nations is marking this year’s World Tourism Day by exploring how technological advances such as big data, artificial intelligence and digital platforms can contribute to the way people travel and foster innovation in the tourism industry.
“The digital transformation is about providing benefits to all, and we are making sure that tourism contributes to this global commitment,” said Zurab Pololikashvili, Secretary-General of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO).
Tourism has become one of the fastest growing and most important economic sectors in the world, according to the Madrid-based UNWTO, with international tourist arrivals having grown from 25 million in 1950 to nearly 1.3 billion today. The sector represents an estimated 10 per cent of the world’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and 1 in 10 jobs globally.
UNWTO expects that tourism will continue to grow at an average of 3 per cent annually until 2030, as more people have access to travel thanks to the decline in the price of transport, especially air transport, and growing middle classes worldwide.

Ease of doing business 2018. India can beat China next year; these 3 things will make it possible.

Ease of doing business 2018. India can beat China next year; these 3 things will make it possible.

(FE online 01Nov2017.)

If the Narendra Modi government is able to get its focus right on 3 key areas, come 2018, India may very well perform better than China in the World Bank 'Ease of Doing Business' Rankings as well!

Ease of doing business 2018: A comparison between India and China is inevitable, especially given the fact that India has beaten China to become the fastest growing economy in the world. And, if the Narendra Modigovernment is able to get its focus right on 3 key areas, come 2018, India may very well perform better than China in the World Bank ‘Ease of Doing Business’ Rankings as well!
India has emerged an outperformer in World Bank’s ‘Ease of Doing Business’ rankings this year. Scoring a ‘century’, India has jumped a whopping 30 places to bag the 100th position in a research that ranks 190 countries. PM Narendra Modi has often highlighted his government’s aim to break into the top 50 league of countries for doing business, and this jump to 100 would come as a big boost for him, especially at a time when economic growth and reforms are being questioned.
China, on the other hand, has maintained its ranking of 78 from 2017. The gap between 78 and 100 may seem small, yet is not easy to bridge. For one, the rankings are competitive, which means that not only does India have to put in efforts in several of the 10 areas that World Bank assesses, but also has to be seen doing better than other countries.
World Bank releases its annual report ranking countries on 10 parameters to come up with the final ranking. These are: Starting a Business, Dealing with Construction permits, Getting Electricity, Registering Property, Getting Credit, Protecting Minority investors, Paying taxes, Trading across borders, Enforcing contracts and Resolving insolvency. As the table below suggests, India already ranks better than China in 4 out of 10 the parameters. To break into the list of top 50 nations, and beat China, India should focus on the following three areas on priority:
1. Registering property. 2. Enforcing contracts. 3. Resolving insolvency.

Philippines eyes one lakh tourists from India by December end.

Glen Agustin, chief tourism operations officer, Market Development Division of Department of Tourism, Philippines. It expects one lakh tourists from India by the end of the calendar year as against about 70,000 during last year.

Philippines Tourism Department today said it expects one lakh tourists from India by the end of the calendar year as against about 70,000 during last year. “We have been experiencing very good arrivals from India. We expect about 100,000 tourists this year. We hope that the growth in arrivals from India would be over 30 per cent. Last year, we had over 70,000 tourists from India to Philippines,” Glen Agustin, chief tourism operations officer, Market Development Division of Department of Tourism, Philippines told PTI. Replying to a query, he said the growth is expected mainly on the basis of attractions, destinations and facilities that the country offers to visitors. He said the archipelago hopes to receive about seven million tourists globally this year. “We are going to receive about seven million tourists this year predominantly from our Asian neighbours. Also, we receive good number of visitors from the UK and the USA also. Last year, 5.5 million people visited Philippines,” he said.
